Securities Transaction Tax (STT) in Budget 2013-14

The Securities Transaction Tax (STT) is levied on purchase or sale of securities listed in the Stock Exchanges in India.  The tax is charged on Shares, Derivatives and Mutual Funds.

In the recent Budget 2013-14, it is proposed that the STT rate is reduced for:

  • Equity Mutual Funds and ETFs Redemption from 0.25% to 0.001%
  • Equity Futures from 0.017% to 0.01%
It will help the Investors to reduce their tax burden from the sale of Equity related securities and Mutual Funds.
